Ellie’s finger gently caressed the old photograph. Her thoughts drifted back to the
time when she remembered being ‘daddy’s little girl’ and a single tear slipped
down her cheek.
The photo, a candid shot of little Ellie tenderly held in
her father’s arms, crumpled in her clenching fist. Arduous moments past with Ellie’s
mind consumed in not so cheerful memories until she dropped the photo into the
hungrily awaiting trashcan.
Tears streamed from Ellie’s eyes at the recollection of
her broken relationship with her father. Crushing thoughts clouded her mind
with grief and agony: He rejected me. He quit loving me
when he saw who I grew up to be.
A burst of anger welled up inside Ellie at her memories
of her father’s rebuff. Slowly, a bittersweet smile rose to her lips as she
remembered how she had gotten away from her careless father as soon as she
graduated high school and had the pleasure of choosing to never see him again.
Ready to be done with revisiting her painful history,
Ellie brushed away her drying tears and put the past behind her once again.
